The Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja College of Teacher Education symbolising the rich cultural heritage of Southern Orissa stands solemnly on a hillock amidst beautiful panorama of nature on the side of the Rouselkonda Reservoir at Bhanjanagar.
The College was being run by private management with effect from 30-5-81 until it was taken over by the Government of Orissa on 14-12-90 F.N with an approved students strength of 64 which was subsequently raised to 72. With the blessings of the saintly poet Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja, the College has been upgraded to the status of College of Teacher Education from the academic session 1993-94 and has been allowed to carry the title of Kabi Samrat Upendra Banja and thus it is now known as the Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja College of Teacher Education with effect from 15-4-1995. The College is in possession of 3.46 acres of land and an area of 1.23 acres of land is in process of alienation. In spite of several handicaps and acute shortage of material and human resources every effort is being made to maintain its uniqueneness of standard in matters of pre-service and in-service Education.
The college is affiliated to Berhampur University. Permanent affiliation with 64 seats was granted vide B.U L.No. 11005 Adm( Gen) dt. 4.11.92 and later affiliation for 72 seats was granted vide B.U. L. No. 13943 /Adm(Gen) dt.17.12.93.
The College is recognised by National Council of Teacher Education with an annual in take of 72 students vide L. No. ERC / 7-16/2001/280 dt.25.1.2001 of ERC, NCTE.
The college is included under section 2(F) & 12-B of the U.G.C Act, 1956 Vide L.No. F-8-65/2004(CPP-I)dt. 24.6.2004 of the University Grants Commission.
