History

  • As per Natioanal Policy on Education (NPE)-1986, the govt. of India had thought of opening of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in order to achieve the constitutional mandate of Universalisation of Elementary Education (UEE). Those DIETs would be the almamatter and resource institute for Elementary Eduacation at the district level. According to that six DIETs had opened in the year 1988 in the first phase. The Dhenkanal DIET was one among them. Thus DIET Dhenkanal was functional for the academic session 1988-89.
  • Prior to that, this Institute was functioning in the name of Govt. Women Secondary Training School since 1972. It was upgraded to DIET on 11.11.1988. It is situated in the district head quarter of Dhenkanal district at Gudianali near the Town Police Station. The practicing George UP School is in its campus.
  • DIET,Dhenkanal is a Govt. Teacher Education Institute (TEI) under the nodal agency, Directorate of TE & SCERT, Odisha, Bhubaneswar and serves as Pre-Service and In-Service training institute for the elementary teachers in the district. It aims to improve the basic education system and competancy of teachers through regular training programmes.
  • Courses Offered:The institute now imparting the following two courses.
    1. Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) – Two year course
    2.  Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) {since 2016} – Two year course  
  • Intake Capacity: The intake capacity for the D.El.Ed. course is 100 and for the B.Ed. course is 50.

    1. The D.El.Ed. course is affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, Cuttack.
    2. The B.Ed. course is affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
