BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE

THE GOVERNMENT TRAINING COLLEGE, SAMBALPUR WAS ESTABLISHED DURING THE SESSION 1962-63 WITH A SANCTIONED STRENGTH OF 120 STUDENTS IN B.Ed. CLASS. SUBSEQUENTLY THE INTAKE CAPACITY OF THE B.Ed. CLASS WAS RAISED TO 180. WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF M.Ed. COURSE DURING THE SESSION 1975-76, THIS INSTITUTION BECAME A POST-GRADUATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION. THE SANCTIONED STRENGTH OF THE M.Ed. CLASS WAS 08 DURING 1975-76, 16 DURING 1976-77 AND 24 DURING 1986-87 AND AT PRESENT IT IS 50. AS PER THE GOVERNMENT DECISION IN 1986, THE COLLEGE WAS NAMED AS DR.P.M.TRAINING COLLEGE, WHICH WAS UPGRADED TO DR.P.M.INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDY IN EDUCATION ON 10.11.1988. THE INSTITUTE HAS BEEN PROVIDING M.Phil. IN EDUCATION COURSE WITH EFFECT FROM 1991-92. THE PRE-Ph.D. PROGRAMME OF (SINGLE SEMESTER) AS PER PROVISION UNDER THE NEW REGULATION OF UGC HAS BEEN INTRODUCED WITH EFFECT FROM 2011. THE SEATS IN VARIOUS COURSES RUN BY THE INSTITUTE ARE AS FOLLOWS:
B.Ed. (2 Years) : 100 (One Hundred) in each year
M.Ed. (2 Years) : 50 (Fifty) in each year
M.Phil.(Education) (1 Year) : 12
