This District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagatsinghpur was established in the year 1973 in the name of Secondary Training School, Jagatsinghpur. Consequent upon the Govt. letter No.10701 dated 25/05/2005 this Institution was upgraded to D.I.E.T. in 2005 and continued functioning in the premises of Govt. Girls’ High School, Jagatsinghpur up to February 2013. From March 2014 it starts functioning at the present site Ladies Hostel Building of DIET  At-Markandapur, and later on this Institute is running in its own administrative building with 2years D.El.Ed course with 100 intakes in each year and 2 years B.Ed course with 50 intakes each year. By the grace of the then collector and District Magistrate Sj. Satyajit Mallick, it was shifted from the Govt. Girl’s High School to the present site and inaugurated by our Hon’ble Chief Minister on 17-10-2016. It is to mention that NCTE, New Delhi, the apex body for regulating teacher education in India visited the Institute in the year 2014 and enhanced the D.El.Ed intake capacity from 50 to 100 and subsequently after NCTE Regulations-2014, B.Ed. course started since 2016-2017 academic session with the approval of NCTE.Thus this Institute now emerged as one of the composite Institute of Odisha in the field of Teacher Education and this is the only institute in Jagatsinghpur District which provides support elementary and secondary teacher education. For awarding diploma and degree with annual and semester examination this Institute is being functioned and affiliated to two controlling body like BSE, Odisha for D.El.Ed course and Utkal University, Odisha for B.Ed course.

It is worthwhile to mention that this D.I.E.T is the nodal academic authority to enhance quality education at elementary and secondary education level under Dept. of School & Mass Education, Govt.of Odisha and Directly under the administrative control of Director, TE and SCERT, Odisha, the state nodal academic authority in the field of education.
