Monitoring of quality of schools particularly in the light of RTE is an important function of DIETs. In view of this regular monitoring and also mentoring of Elementary schools are done regularly. This Institute has adopted 13 Elementary Schools within the Muncipal area of Sambalpur. The schools are Ainthapali Sevashram UPS, R.P line Primary School, R.P line Upper Primary School, Bidyut colony PS, Budharaja Nodal PS, Ashapali Nodal PS, Professor Colony PS, Brooks Hill Nodal PS,  Kainsir PS, Karamtuli PS, Deheripali PS, Pattnaikpada PS and VSS Nagar UPS.

DIET as an institution and DIET faculty as individuals are encouraged to take up studies of the education of the district. DIET, Sambalpur has taken various small scale as well as large scale research work meant for educational development. Besides this, action research which is a part of D.El.Ed curriculum are done by Pupil teachers under the guidance of Teacher Educators.
